If you have a Leica lens and want to protect it, reduce glare or get creative with colors, you need a filter. Here’s the Leica filter size database so that you can get the right filter for your lens.
Why you need a basic filter (even if you don’t want to)
A filter is something that you screw over your lens and is an ubiquitous Leica accessory. Yes you enhance the image quality by reducing glare, or you can darken certain parts in monochrome, but even if you are not a fan of filters, the simple fact it, it protects your lens.
The lens is pretty open to damage when there is no filter, so when you have one always on, it’s a degree of protection against random projectiles and maybe dust and water spray. It’s like a seatbelt for your lenses. You hope you don’t need it but you are glad it is there when you do.
Leica filter sizes chart
While I spent a lot of time gathering and cross referencing multiple sources, I am providing my hard work to you as-is, so I make no claim of it being 100% accurate. I have made the utmost effort to make it accurate.
In order not to have too much data I have split the Leica filter size database into two. Sometimes it is hard to known which lens version one is looking at. Also, lenses that I could not compile the information, or simply cannot have filters screwed on have a 0.
Leica M lenses filter sizes
Let’s start with the Leica filter size for M lenses. Here’s the chart:

There you have it, all of the Leica lens filter sizes I could compile and verify for both the M and the R line of lenses.
How to find you Leica lens filter size
First determine if your lens is an M mount or an R mount and look at the appropriate chart. The lenses are sorted alphabetically so you should be able to find yours fast. Or if you like under the bottom of the table you can search for your lens line like “Summilux” or focal length like “50mm”. The available lenses will show.
How to determine if another lens has the same Leica lens filter size
If you want to get yourself another lens and are not too sure if they have the same filter size, first find out what your lens filter size is and search for it in the appropriate column, it will find all of the other lenses that share the same filter size.
